Kinecting to the Future

The Microsoft Kinect is an amazing piece of technology! For those who don't know, the Kinect is an Xbox 360 attachment that allows gamers to play select games without a controller. All you need to do is move and it registers within the game. You can drive, fight, exercise and play sports, all in your living room!

While most of us see this as a fun distraction, some people are thinking beyond the Kinect as a great real world tool. People have managed to hack the Kinect and do all sorts of cool things, from a robotic seeing eye dog to gesture surgery!

Microsoft has apparently seen the potential of these hacks and embraced them. They have released the Software Development Kit for non-commercial  use so now developers can make their own creations, and next year, they will release the SDK for commercial use, so companies can make Kinect products for anyone to purchase!
