Recently, I have purchased a new set of PC speakers after mine became distorted and died. This sent me on a frantic search for replacements! Here are four of my favorite systems!
Frankly, I am surprised the old ones I had lasted as long as they did. I recall the only reason I even had these dated totems of muffled sound in the first place was because I had scavenged them when a neighbour was throwing out their old – old as in Windows 95 – PC. I was an audio-vulture.
I watch an uncanny amount of movies on my computer, so speakers are a no-brainer for me. This meant I had to replace them, or else I would have to resort to going outside, and exercising. Never.
The Harman/Kardon Soundsticks III are certianly not your every day computer speakers!
They are made of a clear polycarbonate, and consist of a subwoofer, and two stick- shaped satellite speakers, where the volume controls are located. The speakers can pivot from their vertical position to a horizontal position, according to your preference. The good news is that they look as good as they sound! In their review of the Soundsticks, CNET says: ““We were impressed as much by their audio quality as we were by their design”.

The Bose Companion 2 Multimedia Speakers are much more subtle – until you turn them on! They deliver great sound, but they may be a little heavy on the bass for some audiophiles. They have two RCA inputs, so you can get audio from two different sources. For example, you can connect a console and a PC into the same speakers, and listen to the audio from both!

Joey Roth Ceramic Speakers are minimalism at its best! In the spirit of minimalism, instead of reading about it, watch this video, and click the image to learn more about these speakers.

Arguably the most powerful of the featured computer speakers, the Creative ZiiSound T6 is listed because of their richness not only in sound but also in features.
The speakers have their own wireless remote, so you can control the audio while away from the computer. To control them from up close, there is also a wired speaker which sits on your desk. It allows you to switch between audio sources, for which the ZiiSound T6 has multiple inputs. One of the coolest features is that you can wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth enabled device through the speakers!
These are just a few (and sometimes pricey) options. Tell us what you think, or about any must-have computer peripherals that you would recommend!
