5 Must See Zombie Movies!

Contrary to popular opinion, the best time to see the shuffling, blank-eyed walking dead, is not at midnight in a cemetery. It’s on the way to an early class, or on the commute to work. However, if you’re interested in the more entertaining variety of zombie, here are some modern films you do not want to miss this Halloween! This is not a complete list, so don't be too upset if your favorite doesn't show up on the list!

28 Days Later (2002) – Directed by Academy Award Winner Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire), this is a movie that digs a little deeper than your average zombie flick, while maintaining great pace, acting and of course, scares! A bicycle courier awakes in the hospital after getting in an accident, only to find himself in the middle of a zombie ridden Britain!

Zombieland (2009) – A great zombie comedy with a great cast. Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), Woody Harrelson (No Country for Old Men), Emma Stone (Superbad), and Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine). This movie is truly funny, and a good recommendation for those who want the zombies without the horror! Be sure to see Shaun of the Dead too!

Dawn of the Dead (2004) - The original was a classic, and, in my opinion, the modern remake by 300 director Zach Snyder was an adaptation up to the task! As much as a must-see as its predecessor! You have your mall, your variety of characters, and you have your zombies. A lot of them. Let the mayhem begin!

[Rec] (2007)- This film takes a Cloverfield approach, with the entirety of the movie being filmed through a camera one of the characters is holding. I found this movie to be horrifying, and I am not the type to be scared in a movie! Watch as a reporter and her Camera man get a little (actually, a LOT) more than they bargained for while shooting a late night television program!

Planet Terror (2007) – Robert Rodriguez of Spy Kids and Sin City fame brings us this Grindhouse feature (see also: Death Proof). When a biological weapon is discharged, zombies start to roam the streets in this action –comedy-horror. A great cast and exciting plot made this a greatly entertaining movie.

We hope you enjoy these movies, and feel free to comment with your own favorites!

Have a Happy Halloween!

Studying? 5 Ways to Stay Awake Without Caffeine

For a lot of you, midterm examinations might be coming up. The stunning realization now dawns upon you; it might have been a good idea to go to a few more classes.

Now, I know no one leaves studying to the last minute, but just in case your are going to be pulling a couple of late nighters cramming, here are some tips to help you from napping face down in Chapter 3 of Economics:

1. Keep Cool

Avoid doing your late night studying/procrastination in a warm area! While this may be comfortable, warmer areas will speed up your mental exhaustion. It will be harder to remain focused, alert, and (most importantly) awake. Try finding a study area that is a little cooler than you might like, or turning up the air conditioner.

He’s got the right idea!

2. Cold Water

Drinking cold water is a good way to keep your body temperature down, which helps you stay alert. Also, try splashing yourself in the face, it will give you a nice jolt!

Beckham utilizes this method…to stay awake in the MLS

4. Exercise Breaks

Go for a light jog or do some stretching to keep your heart beating and give yourself a light energy boost. Another light workout you can try is finally putting that iPad to use with a short game of frisbee.

Or other forms of cardio!

5. Chew Gum

Instead of snacking and eating, chew some gum! Digestion consumes a lot of your energy. Plus, chewing gum gives you something to do, and it will offer a little distraction to break the monotony that studying can sometimes bring.

….perhaps stick to one piece of gum at a time?

Good luck studying!

So you’ve made it to college, and in the process you’ve left behind the comfy old bedroom that was your sanctuary. Now, don’t let those ugly white dorm room walls get you down! College is about finding yourself and making a statement. Here are some funky and out of the box ways to decorate your dorm, and express the oh-so-cool person that is you!
Deck the WallsRf- 10.208-2
Posters? Yawn! Cover up all that white while staying within your dorm regulations with removable wall tattoos! These decorative decals come in all shapes, sizes, colours and themes. Love to travel? Try a cityscape or the Eiffel Tower. Feeling abstract? Go for spray painted graffiti look. The possibilities are endless. You can even try glow in the dark designs, or stick-on white board and chalk board decals. The best part is they peel right off without damaging the walls.

Lamps are boring! Why not try some paper lanterns, or string up some party lights? They come in all colours and shapes, and they can really make a room stand out. If you think you’re hot and spicy, say it with these super crazy fiesta chilli pepper lights! Pair with them with a giant cactus wall tattoo and you’re ready for a desert cook-out!
3-D Magic
3-D everything is taking the world by storm! You most likely can’t afford one of those new 3-D televisions, but try out this 3-D dorm room designer tool from DesignYourDorm.com. Boost Your Morning Coffee with these Mugs

So you wake up, and chase your Clocky around your room for a moment to turn it off. You may be standing upright, but you're not really awake. You pour yourself some coffee into your boring, plain white mug and fall asleep right there at the table! what happened? Your mug was so boring it put you back to sleep. Luckily, we have compiled a list of not-so-boring morning beverage vessels so this won't happen anymore!

1. Dunk Mug with Biscuit Holder

In what has got to be one of the most revolutionary technological breakthroughs of the century, top scientists and engineers from all over the world have fused a coffee mug with a cookie holder. World peace, and trips to Mars soon to follow.

2. Crinkle Cups

This mug serves as a cruel reminder as to why you needed coffee to get to class this morning in the first place. Just don't try to play flipmug!

On Off Mug

The heat sensitive On Off Mug changes from OFF to ON when you pour coffee in it! I suppose this makes some sense, as a coffee mug isn’t really activated until used. Turning it off should be easy all you have to do is drink the coffee! Unfortunately, this mug can only tell you if it's on or off, it won't stir your coffee for you...

4. Self Stirring Mug

...but this one will! There is a little propeller in the bottom that rotates at 3000rpm. Prepare to have a lot more clean spoons lying around!

5. NRDC Cup

This mug shows the ice caps melting when you fill it. An environmental wake-up, as brought to you by the Natural Resource Defense Council

I hope you give these a try for an entertaining morning!

Cheers,
