Alarm Clocks that will wake you up...whether you like it or not.

Like most people, I'm not an early riser. Unfortunately, like many of you students out there, the world doesn't understand my 14 hour sleep requirements, so I need to adjust especially since I was late for work today! My first step is getting a good alarm clock. Or a really cool one.

So, after a little poking around, I have found a few unconventional alarm clock designs that will turn waking up into an...experience:

1. The Carpet Alarm Clock

This alarm clock certainly doesn't sit on the bedside table! When the alarm goes off, the only way to turn it off is by standing on it. This means that you will need to physically get out of bed to turn it off. By the time you're up, you should be at least partially awake, and good to start your day.

BanClock Alarm Clock

"Change" the way you wake up in the morning. If you want to keep sleeping, it's going to cost you with this alarm clock. When it goes off in the morning, put in a coin to keep snoozing for a few more minutes. If you want to save your money, then you better get out of bed!

Water Powered Alarm Clock

Everyone wants to save the environment these days. Now you can do your part. we all know that clocks are one of the leading sources of carbon emissions, especially all those gas guzzling grandfather clocks out there!
Now, I may be a little off in my environmental research, but that doesn't change the fact it's kinda neat to have a water powered clock.

Clocky

Clocky is an alarm clock that actually jumps from your table. It then proceeds to roll around your room to hide. If that isn't jarring your slumber enough, it beeping the whole time. the only way to turn Clocky off is to get out of bed to go find it!

We've added two new National Instruments software titles to the estore: LabVIEW and Multisim. These are tools that every engineer and scientist should have at their disposal when tackling large amounts of data.

LabVIEW allows users to easily:

  • Display it with many different graphs, tables, and reports.

Multisim helps you:

Cutting textbook costs

UPDATE: I have added another site dedicated to affordable textbooks to the end of this entry, be sure to check them out.

One of the main skills that post-secondary school can teach many students occurs outside of the classroom. This is of course bargain hunting.

Aside from tuition and beer, one of the highest costs for a college student is their textbooks. A lot of us are often hard pressed for extra cash as it is! Luckily, this does not have to always be the case as there are many sites dedicated to providing items we need at a fraction of the retail price.

We have found some of our favorite book sites for you guys to take a look at:

Abe Books offers a very wide selection of all sorts of books, and they have a n area of their site dedicated to discounted textbooks. I was able to find all of the textbooks for my upcoming year on this site with ease. They have a clean layout with many search options that make finding all the required reading you’re going to (maybe) read this year a breeze to find. You can also sell your used text books back to them.

Textbooks.com guarantees the best prices. They offer their own stock plus a “marketplace” where sellers can distribute their items. This offers a lot of choice for students trying to save money during the year. The store is laid out and simple to use.

Bigwords is a very fun site that definitely deserves a look, even if you are not looking for textbooks in particular. With a funny take on what can sometimes be a dry exercise, they are sure to give you a fun buying experience. Along with textbooks Bigwords also sells DVDs, books, music and games, making them a one stop shop for many discounted items we need.

Bookbyte is another great site for low cost textbooks. Along with a Student Marketplace feature for finding even less expensive books, and intuitive searching, one of the best draws to this site is the Chat function. The staff is very helpful, which allows you to avoid having to browse the site for too long looking for an answer to questions that may come up.
